Turn Airline Spoilage into a FREE Ticket

Free Worldwide Airline Ticket, no joke! Airlines give away vouchers good for worldwide travel and you can earn some for yourself or others to travel with you.

First, let me relate my personal story to you and give you an actual example of a $1200 transportation voucher for travel on American Airlines that I earned simply giving up my seat on a full flight.

My wife and I have a timeshare in Cancun, Mexico and we travel there in January or February every year. Yes, it's the busy season in Cancun and after one year being there at "Spring Break" we try to avoid the over booked hotel and condos and hordes of wild, excited young folks. However, the fact is the busy flights are what we want to look for in order to take advantage of our plan to have the airline give us free tickets.

This last February we had purchased our two tickets using frequent flyer miles that we had earned with our American Airlines Advantage CitiBank credit card. A free ticket we had earned just paying our bills with our credit card. We are going to spend the money anyway so why not pay with a credit card that we earn free airline tickets. We purchased our tickets in the fall and made our timeshare and airline reservations several months in advance. We knew of course that this was a busy travel time, and that the flights would be full.

Today with almost every flight full and airlines realizing cancelations are inevitable many flights are maximized or sold to capacity, maybe a little over. That is when our luck begins. Traveling at busy times, holidays, spring break, school vacations we can almost always count on flights sold with more passengers than seats.

The airlines realize people will volunteer to accept a "bump" for money and other compensation. Being bumped off a flight is not the nicest thing in the world unless you want to take advantage of the situation and accept the airline's offer. Remember it is negotiable and the airline would much rather pay someone to step aside and not have to force the issue of a overbooked fight.

They will offer on domestic flight $200-300 in the form of a voucher for future airline tickets or even a free roundtrip ticket for use at a later time, usually within one year. In addition to offering you the next available flight to your destination, they will have available for two or more hour wait vouchers for food. If it happens to be the last flight of the night and you are at a connection airport you can ask for hotel accommodations as well.

What you receive is a matter of negotiating with the gate agents, in a polite and reasonable manner. They have limits and there maybe other people who have put their names on the volunteer list also. In our situation in February we had traveled from our home in Tucson and were making an afternoon connection in Dallas Fort Worth Airport on an International Flight.

The gate agents had made an announcement that the flight we were to take from Dallas Fort Worth to Cancun for was full and the airline was looking for volunteers to give up their seats on the flight and in return would be guaranteed a seat on the next flight in about an hour and a half. The offer was $600 per passenger or in our case $1200 for any American Airline flights in the next year.

I asked my wife about us standing aside for a couple of hours, giving up the seats we had booked for free using our frequent flyer miles and taking the later flight? She said oke but make sure the next flight is one that we can get on and still get to Cancun tonight.

I was assured the next flight had several empty seats and we would have no problem being boarded on the very next flight and arrive about two hours later than we had planned. The gate took our tickets and said as soon as they got the flight boarded and closed out they would get our vouchers and board passing for the next flight.

Within about a half hour we were called back to the gate boarding counter given our two $600 vouchers and two boarding passes for first class....not a bad little extra perk we hadn't expected when we gave up our two coach tickets. We arrived one and half hour later than our original schedule to enjoy our week in Cancun with our $1200vouchers for future travel.

Now what are some of the tips that you can use to "earn" your next flights free? Well I have some suggestions and I will share them with you, good luck on helping the airline with their spoilage. Airline spoilage is a plane leaving the airport with an empty seat.....once the plane leaves the gate an empty seat can never be recovered.....it is wasted.

Terms that need explaining: What is getting "bumped"?

Bumping is when an airline overbooks a flight and must "bump" or deny people with paid reservations boarding the flight. Overbooking as I outlined earlier is a common practice for airline to eliminate or limit the empty seats or spoilage on any flight. People may get caught in traffic, have an illness or some other last minute upset in their travel plans. No airline wants a flight to leave the gate with empty seats, money that will never be recovered. Airlines have taken to selling a few more seats than are actually on the aircraft.

What happens when everyone that is confirmed on the flight shows up? They offer to buy back the seats from passengers on a voluntary basis.

Now how to plan to get bumped

First and foremost buy a ticket on a flight that has the best opportunity of being overbooked or sold out. Think about the days that the tickets are the most expensive. Sunday afternoons and evenings, people have to be back at work or school on Monday. Friday afternoons when the business travelers are headed home for the weekend and folks that can want to start their long weekend early. If you are traveling between two cities what type of flight do you prefer? Nonstop of course, who wants to change planes and spend time between flights? My little story also told you before and after a holiday or major vacation time for families.

Buy your tickets with those points in mind. You can always call the night before the flight or even go online into your airline's web site and check out the seat map or ask the airline agent if the flight has extra seats available. If the flight looks full get to the airport early and check-in, get to the gate and listen for any announcement about needing volunteers. The gate agents will usually indicate they have a full flight and asking for volunteers to give up their seats for compensation. You can ask about a volunteer list from the gate agent, but don't act like a vulture waiting to hold up the bank.

One last word of caution. You can negotiate with the gate agent a little, food vouchers, overnight hotel voucher or even transportation vouchers. How the negotiation goes depends on how desperate the airline is for seats, how many people have volunteered, but just remember the airline has set guidelines for their agents in compensating passengers.

*Ask about how the next flight looks for you to board if you accept being voluntarily bumped.
*Ask about any restrictions on free tickets or vouchers and how long you have to use them.
*Watch out for standby on another flight it could be just as full as the flight you are giving up.

Secrets to Shopping for Low Air Fares

Shopping for airline tickets can be a little difficult these days. Airlines have cut back on flights so that discount seats are no longer chasing each other. Less seats to fill even with the various cutbacks in travel are leaving travelers shopping for the lowest fares. Knowing a few of the basics to look for in airline pricing will help. Bargain shop, don't get on a plane and find out the family sitting next to you bought tickets $100 a piece cheaper. Wow, how that can hurt.

Experience has given me a few general rules when planning trips. Kind of having an understanding of how the airlines come up with their fares will help. Remember in my article about "Free Worldwide Airline Tickets" it was discussed best times to get "bumped"? The times the airlines are the busiest and can command higher air fares. Fares are based on *dates, *times, and *seat availability. The airlines are fixing fares to maximize revenue to build profits.

So here are a few easy tips: Dates..advance purchases, 7-14-21 days before your travels or as early as you can safely buy your tickets. Make certain you have firm dates because changes can cost you a lot of money. When thinking about your travel days of the week are important. Usually Sundays and Fridays are the most expensive days. It will be very difficult to find low fares Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons and evenings. Business Travelers trying to get home for the weekend and folks wanting early vacation starts are happening on Friday. Sunday the vacations are usually ending with school and work starting up again on Monday.

So which days usually look the best for cheaper fares? Saturday, in fact the least number of flights are scheduled for Saturdays. The most available seats are available mid-week and Saturdays. Try Wednesday and Saturday travel for the lowest fares.

Times of the day, early morning or late night departures are usually the cheapest. People traveling a distance to the airport don't usually want to leave too early. Check on overnight trips from the West Coast to the East Coast. Late afternoon or night flights put people into their destination late, yet the airlines need to position their aircraft for the following morning takeoffs.

Most of the desirable flights to Hawaii leave in the morning, because of the time change you land with part of the day to settle in and start enjoying your vacation. Returning from Hawaii in order to maximize the aircraft equipment they turn around with a new crew and return overnight back to the mainland.

Round-trips are usually better bargains than one-way tickets again be careful so you can avoid changes to the tickets. Another little secret is to search "Co-Terminals" or airports located in the same region or nearby cities are worth shopping for better fares.

Compare airports such as flying into Ontario (ONT) or Los Angeles (LAX) rather than into Palm Springs (PSP). Burbank (BUR) is another good choice in the Los Angeles area. In the New York area, LaGuardia (LGA), Kennedy (JFK), Newark (EWR), Islip (ISP), White Plains, ( HPN...Westchester County)are reasonable alternatives. Miami (MIA), Ft Lauderdale (FLL), and West Palm Beach (PBI) are options. Alternative airports especially if you intend to rent a car offer the opportunity to save money . {From Tucson to Phoenix is at least an hour drive but competition and more flight traffic makes shopping fares worth it.}

When looking at fares read the fine print! Many times airlines advertise specials in terms of one way fares based on round-trip travel. Are you looking at one-way fares based on a round trip, are you including the taxes and other fees? What about bag fees? Most airlines are now charging for checked bags. This can definitely add to the costs or your trip. {ALWAYS READ the Ticket Restrictions!} If you have to change or cancel your ticket, what is the penalty?

Warning..some tickets are non refundable, non changeable, do not allow standbys, or earn frequent flyer points, in other words, use them or lose them!

Watch out if you buy a ticket with a change of planes or airlines. If you must change planes to another carrier, do the two carriers have baggage agreements and transfer your bags to the next plane? Some airlines have cheap rates point to point but you must claim your bags and recheck them if that is not your final destination. {Make sure you have enough time between connections.}

Sometimes a quick call to the airline reservation number to check for special fares will turn up something that you can't find online. Some airlines offer special fares for emergency air travel, bereavement, military or senior and student fares. Start your shopping early and get familarized with the different airlines rules and price offerings.

Insider Secrets to Saving Money on Airline Tickets

E-Books, Shocking secrets of ex-airline and travel agents.

Are they worth it? Can they really save you money?

Let me give a full disclosure about myself. I am a very happy retired employee of a major airline’s reservations office. I appreciated the work, loved the customers, enjoyed working with the other staff members and the 18 years of almost free worldwide travel.

It’s my believe the writers of airline secrets guides promote the sales with ad copy expressing how disgruntled and angry they are with their unhappy association with their former employers. If that sells books, go ahead, but some of us know the perks you enjoyed in your former positions.

The question is are the e-books or guides worth the time and expense? Yes, definitely! Ignore the angry tones in their writings, a lot of money saving and vital information is being shared. Believe me they are making up for their discomfort each time someone buys their e-book.

I recommend prior to planning your trip and buying any tickets, making any reservations, cars, hotels, cruises you purchase at least one "insider's guide". Your wallet will love you and you will enjoy the trip and the savings that can be yours. The information is immediately available in the form of e-books that can be downloaded to your computer for reference as you go about your online shopping.

In recent years the airlines have tacked on so many extra charges and fees in addition to the cost of the ticket. In times past you called the airline reservation 800 number, got some personal assistance and that was that.

Since then higher fuel prices and yes low cost carrier competion has sent airline scurrying for additional income sources. Different airlines have come up with various add on costs. Some charge you to buy a ticket over the phone, they expect you to favor their web sites and reduce the employee costs of ticket shopping. Remember when you could go to the airport ticket counter and buy your ticket, now that costs extra money with some airlines.

Prior to 9/11 and the terrorists strikes on New York, airlines had ticket offices in most major cities. Only a few remain today, so if you are not paying by credit card on the airline’s web site expect a little extra charge on top of the price of the ticket.

Using the information you learn from e-book guides like “Insider Secrets To Cheap Flights” you learn about some of the other expenses of flying today. Fees to check your bags, in economy class no more free meals, even snacks are purchased. You’ll possibly pay extra for a blanket or pillow and prior to the flight seat selection.

These and many other items to prepare you for your travel are covered. Whether the travel is for business or pleasure the advance preparation is worth much more than the cost of even a couple of “insider guides“. Starting any trip with unexpected surprises all along the way is the surest way to ruin a travel experience.

Many of the writers have included bonuses, such as latest security tips, best buys on hotels, cars, cruises and additional travel related items. Check for any additional offerings with an e-book purchase most will include some extras.
“Insider Secrets to CheapFlights” is a very worth while purchase, as are the other two listed guides.

My final word, avoid any unnecessary hassels spend a few bucks for the experts "secret". They will spill the beans, after all don't they tell everyone how angry they are with their former employers.

Expert Advice for Savings and More for Your Money.

Local travel agents are coming back and none to soon.

The same airlines that almost put the travel agents out of business, cutting out their compensation are leading the way for their return. Just shopping for fares, sorting out the rules and understanding the restrictions are worth the few bucks the travel agent will charge you to make arrangements for your travel. Not only that, calling the airline to make your reservations costs money and if you have to pick up your tickets at the airport ticket counter even more.

STA Travel has more discounts than the competition

Making sure that you are getting the best fares and discounts you are entitled to is where the professional service of a travel agent is needed. No one wants to pay too much but learning all the different days, high and low seasons, age and membership discounts available are just a couple of reasons it takes a full time knowledgeable guide to research prior to purchasing your tickets or accommodations.

Traveling overseas on the 16th of October may save you several hundred dollars as opposed to starting your trip on the 14th. Driving a few miles or an hour away and not using your home airport may be the difference of a large savings in ticket prices. Checking into the hotel on Monday or Saturday may be the difference of fifty or so dollars a night.

traveltips Traveling today is almost like changing jobs. There are baggage rules, size limits, charges and extra charges. Trip insurance, seat assignments, food served, special meals available, airport transfers to your hotel, auto rentals and even lost baggage problems you could encounter.

Money Saving Tips for Your Travel Adventures

Southwest Sites Welcome You

ARIZONA'S NEWEST WONDER Kartchner Caverns State Park Kartchner Caverns State Park opened in 1999. This stunning limestone cave system is one of the top in the world. It has been held from public view since its discovery and only recently has been opened to reveal the caverns in near pristine condition. Kartchner is a living limestone cave and as such is extremely fragile. Exposure to the outside dry are could end its growth and the exquisite formations it holds. Gorgeous clusters of stalactites hang from the ceiling and the calcium carbonate formations resemble marble when dripping with water. Great effort has gone into preserving the cave; hermetically sealed doors closing before the next doors open, the idea of course is to maintain the humid interior of the cave. Misting systems have been installed to assist in that effort. The trail in the cave allows viewing but is designed to keep human hands away from the more delicate formations. FASCINATING..UNBELIEVABLE..RARE..EXOTIC

Nearby, the town of BENSON has been gearing itself up for several years for the opening of Kartchner Caverns State Park , a labyrinth of subterranean wonders that finally debuted in 2000. It's not quite up to the hype that preceded it, being a lot smaller than Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.
Map, photos, details you need to know. Click here...real wonder...and inexpensive to visit.
A few miles South of Benson....I-10 South from Tucson....turn off to Kartcher Caverns also South of Benson is St David and a Western Horizon Membership RV Resort, Twins Lakes.
Another site of interest in Southern Arizona.....Tombstone, Arizona•
Perhaps the most famous town in the Wild West, TOMBSTONE lies 22 miles south of I-10 on US-80, 67 miles southeast of Tucson. More than a century has passed since its mining days came to an end, but "The Town Too Tough to Die" clings...
Tombstone only began life as a silver-boomtown in 1877, and by the end of the 1880s it was all but deserted again. However, on the day that gave it the notoriety that's kept it alive, its population stood at more than ten thousand. It was 2pm on October 26, 1881, when Doc Holliday , along with Wyatt Earp and his brothers Virgil and Morgan (who all served as local sheriffs), confronted a band of suspected cattle rustlers, the Clantons, in the legendary Gunfight at the OK Corral . Within a few minutes, three of the suspects were dead. The Earps were accused of murder, but charges were eventually dropped.
Although the gunfight in fact took place on Fremont Street, the OK Corral itself remains the major attraction for visitors (daily 8.30am-5pm; $2.50), despite the fact that it holds little more than crude dummies that show the supposed locations of the Earps and the Clantons, in complete contradiction to contemporary reports of the fight. A couple of blocks along Allen Street, the Bird Cage Theater (daily 8am-6pm; $5) was Tombstone's leading venue for entertainment of all kinds. Seven "bird cages," much like theater boxes but curtained off and said to have been used by prostitutes, hang from either side of the main hall. The dusty, cluttered theater now holds a motley collection of curiosities, including a revolting foot-long "merman" from China, while downstairs you can see the old gaming tables and bordello rooms.
The exhibits are real enough, but there's little historical accuracy to many of the makeshift signs. You might want to skip it entirely in favor of Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park on Toughnut and Third streets, just off the main drag (daily 8am-5pm; $2.50). This one-time seat of Cochise County features the little-changed courtroom where several well-known trials took place. Excellent exhibits include two detailed alternative versions of what might have actually happened at the OK Corral.
